GOALS
It is logical to begin any activity by setting clear goals and developing a plan. In the case of a garden, this is especially important to ensure that the energy, effort, and resources invested are used purposefully and in line with your wishes and needs. Only then, at the end of the journey, will you be able to experience true joy and satisfaction from what you have achieved.

DESIRES AND NEEDS IN THE GARDEN
Desires and needs don’t always align. Desires are emotional and inspiring (answering the question: What do I want?), while needs are practical and grounded (What do I truly need?). Planning should start with defining your desires, but they must be adjusted to match your actual needs and possibilities.
Before you begin planning, consider how you intend to use your garden:
For those who see gardening as a beloved hobby, a lush, plant-rich environment filled with vibrant textures and colors will feel most rewarding.
If you enjoy cooking and want to use home-grown herbs, plan for a space to grow them. This could be a small pot with essential herbs or a full kitchen garden with herbs, flowers, and a collection of tomatoes in a greenhouse.
If you love entertaining guests, make sure to include a comfortable gathering space—such as a spacious terrace, partially or fully covered, so light rain won’t spoil your events.
Families with young children will benefit from a safe lawn and a flexible play area that can adapt as kids grow and their interests change.

GARDEN AESTHETICS AND PERSONALITY
It’s helpful to see your garden as an extension of your living space—and of your personality. Are you precise, meticulous, and structured, or more artistically free and creative? Do you prefer your surroundings to be orderly and clear, or natural and flowing? A garden that reflects your character will become a natural part of your everyday life and bring you joy and satisfaction day after day.

GARDEN DESIGN POSSIBILITIES
Once you’ve defined your desires and needs, it’s time to evaluate what’s realistically possible:
Will you create the garden yourself, or hire professionals?
How much are you willing to invest? Soil preparation, ground coverings, plants, and professional services can all be significant expenses nowadays.
How will the garden be maintained in the long term? Will you care for it yourself, rely on a family member, like grandma, or hire a gardener? Perhaps a hybrid model suits you best—taking care of daily tasks yourself while leaving the more complex jobs to a professional?

Planning and maintaining a garden is a process that requires both creativity and a practical mindset. When all the elements are balanced, the garden becomes more than just a beautiful space—it becomes a source of joy and harmony.
